The College of New Jersey is seeking candidates for Student TCNJ Contact Tracers.



TCNJ will work to monitor and respond to the public health emergency of COVID-19 within their community. During the period of community transmission, TCNJ will work to detect new cases of COVID-19, identify sources of transmission, control spread and protect vulnerable populations. We are seeking dedicated Contact Tracers to assist us in our efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19. Contact Tracer is responsible for reaching out to all persons who have come into close contact with a COVID-19 infected individual and providing them with information and guidance to interrupt ongoing transmission and reduce spread. The Contact Tracer will use a web-based platform and telephone to communicate with assigned contacts, obtain symptom information, refer contacts for testing, and provide instructions for quarantine. Contact Tracers are required to follow all scripts, policies, and procedures provided by TCNJ and the local health department and will comply with confidentiality and the handling of personally identifiable information. Interviews will be held until these positions are filled. *This position is subject to end at any time.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Excellent organizational skills and sound judgment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to assist distressed individuals from different cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to comply with regulations and communicate official information in an appropriate manner
  • Access to a telephone, computer, and reliable internet connection
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel as well as data entry
  • Ability to coordinate efforts, facilitate intervention, and maintain records


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Interviewing people with COVID-19 to identify everyone they had close contact with during the time they may have been infections
  • Notifying contacts of their potential exposure
  • Referring contacts for testing
  • Monitoring contact for signs and symptoms of COVID-19
  • Providing contacts with regulated information on isolation and quarantine procedures
  • Connecting contact with services they might need during self-quarantine period
  • Coordinating contact tracing efforts with Contact Tracing Coordinator and Case Investigators at TCNJ
  • Conducting interviews in a professional manner that reflects emotional and cultural awareness
  • Collecting and recording accurate information into the data system
  • Managing the monitoring of quarantined individuals
  • Staying up to date with latest COVID guidance and trends nation and state wide
  • Work on projects as assigned
