The Director of Program Management position is a unique opportunity to work in a highly strategic part of the business with direct revenue impact. In this role, you will have opportunities to engage across the entire company, lead highly visible SaaS transformation initiatives, and learn about all of VMware’s technologies. Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

  • 30 Days: Immerse yourself into the team’s portfolio to understand the current state, stakeholders, technologies, and markets. Serve as advisor and escalation point for team.

  • 30 Days: Act as point person for annual planning and budget management for the SCOPE organization (in partnership with Finance)

  • 60 Days: Run the Security, Compliance and Privacy monthly executive forum

  • 60 Days: Run the 2022 SCOPE vision, strategy, and goals development exercise

  • 120 Days: Establish clear goals, organizational structure, and roles and responsibilities for the PMO team

  • 180 Days: Create Security and Privacy roadmaps in partnership with Field, business units, and SCOPE organizations

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

This position is both a Program Management leader as well as a Chief of Staff for the VP of Security, Compliance, and Privacy Engineering (SCOPE); so there are a plethora of opportunities to have impact throughout VMware.

  • Identify ways to accelerate compliance authorization / certification processes for VMware products and services

  • Identify ways to simplify the experience for internal stakeholders working with SCOPE

  • Act as a sponsor for cross-functional initiatives to improve processes, templates, and tools to optimize how we operate. Advocate for best practices, high quality standards, and innovation across the SCOPE organization and beyond.

  • Act as Chief of Staff for SCOPE (Security, Compliance and Privacy) platform services

  • Manage Compliance, Security and Privacy roadmaps in partnership with Field, business units, and SCOPE organizations

  • Create executive communications, often with short turnaround times

  • Act as proxy for VP of SCOPE and a confidant to key stakeholders and the team

  • Represent SCOPE at executive forums and present the state of team’s portfolio

  • Successfully build relationships in a matrix organization (e.g. Engineering, Product Management, Compliance, SRE, Field Sales, Program Management)

  • Coach team on program management best practices

  • Foster a vibrant culture and set of values within the SCOPE organization

  • Develop a working knowledge of security, compliance and privacy standards, controls, processes, and operational practices

  • Utilize excellent analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, and organizational skills to ensure team commitments are delivered on time

What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

You will be part of the growing 100+ person SCOPE organization that comprises of Engineering, Compliance, Security Response, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and Program Management teams. This position will lead the SCOPE Program Management Office (PMO) that focuses on driving compliance accreditations and certifications as well as security and privacy requirements into VMware’s products and services. The group is distributed across many geographies (US, Bulgaria, India, Ireland) both in VMware offices and remote locations. Our Program Management Office (PMO) is a growing team that works closely together to enable operational excellence within SCOPE and our stakeholder teams.
