What you'll do

• Act as a technical leader and mentor to engineers within Talk and across Spotify.
• Coordinate technical projects across teams within our mission and across Spotify.
• Collaborate with engineers to solve interesting and challenging problems.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to determine how to design scalable backend systems and APIs to meet their needs.
• Architect, develop, and operate services deployed to millions of users.
• Work with data engineers to build and maintain batch and real-time data pipelines with data processing tools like Airflow, Spark, Dataflow, and other Google Cloud Platform offerings.
• Be a technical leader and valued contributor in an autonomous, cross-functional agile team.
• Be a leader in the Spotify-wide backend developer community affecting and driving architectural decisions across the company.

Who you are

• You have experience working directly with stakeholders to understand, document and develop systems that meet their requirements, driving increased adoption and reducing reliance on custom one-off implementations.
• You have experience writing distributed, high-volume services and know how to deploy and keep them running in production.
• You have experience refactoring and rebuilding systems, and can break large problems down into actionable, iterative phases.
• You have a deep understanding of system design, data structures, and algorithms.
• You have curiosity about big data processing technologies.
• You value collaboration and love working in an environment where you constantly experiment and iterate quickly.
• You believe data is the most powerful tool for informed decision-making.
• You care about engineering excellence and you know what it means to ship high quality code.
• Experience with both Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services is nice to have. You’ll be designing cloud-native and / or cloud-agnostic systems on these platforms.
• Prior experience with NodeJS or Java is nice to have. Willingness to learn and contribute code in these languages is required.
