POSITION OVERVIEW

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director of Athletics, the Student Athletics Program Specialist/ Assistant AD for Athletic Communications & Digital Strategy is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Sports Information & Athletic Communications office, including press releases and game stories, website maintenance, social media, statistics, promotions and marketing, live streaming, and special events.

The essential responsibilities/principal activities include:

  • Manage all day-to-day operations of sports information and athletics communications including directing and providing media information for 15 intercollegiate sports.

  • Maintain the athletic department website, write press releases, game notes, and stories for publication. Ensure data is accurate, relevant, and posted in a timely manner.

  • Key contributor of the development of information, videos and photos to social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, & YouTube

  • Oversee and coordinate statistics and video for all home events, including off-campus home events. Compile and maintain game records, cumulative and historical statistics on all teams for direct public consumption.

  • Assist with alumni outreach with monthly Alumni Spotlights and seasonal newsletters

  • Assist in live streaming home games and producing video content highlighting student-athlete success on and off the field

  • Attend all home sporting events and other university events as directed by the Director of Athletics/Deputy Director

  • Demonstrate a willingness to work flexible hours during the academic school year including nights, weekends and holiday breaks, as necessary

  • Supervise Assistant Sports Information Director, graphic designer, work study, student assistants, and interns. Coordinate, train and supervise game day sports information staff.

  • Represent John Jay College at relevant CUNYAC, regional, and national sports information meetings

Candidates will be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of and authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates are required to be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated high level of motivation with strong interpersonal skills

  • Ability to make independent decisions and think and act assertively

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise staff and work with student employees

  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)

  • Stat Crew and NCAA Genius statistical software experience

  • Advanced expertise with social media platforms

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and the needs of diverse faculty, staff, students, and university community

  • Willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues for program growth and enhancement

  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule

  • Possess current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification or ability to immediately obtain
